Outreach
Outreach
One of my missions is to share my love of science and primatology in order to make science more accessible to the public, change the image of what a scientist is and does, encourage a future generation of scientists, and broaden the impact of my research. I thus participate in a number of outreach activities. These are a few examples:
Meet a Scientist Day

The Eugene Science Center, formerly the Eugene Science Factory the local children's science museum hosts a day where different labs from around the University of Oregon put together science related activities. I regularly participate in their "Meet a Scientist Day," with both the UO Molecular Anthropology Lab and the UO Primate Osteology Lab This event creates a space for kids to interact with real scientists.
Science Program to Inspire Creativity and Excellence (SPICE)

SPICE is a women in STEM summer program at the University of Oregon. The goal of SPICE is to foster a young women's involvement in scientific fields. The UO Molecular Anthropology participates in SPICE every summer, leading the participants through a "Forensics in the Forest" activity. This activity incorporates methods used in bioarchaeology, osteology, forensic anthropology, conservation biology, and genetics.
